Well this might not be Captain Erwin's aircraft, but these guys did a great job on the restoration.
The building where JetU is located was the location of Gulfstream Academy before they moved. Mark and Heath both worked there. The building next to JetU was where American Flyers was located. On the other side of the former American Flyers building is where the new competitive flight school, opened by a current Jet University Student is located.
There are dorm rooms upstairs. Whenever they call an all school meeting and have everyone in the large classroom--they normally go and search the dorms. They search the dorms alot.
Here is a link to a really neat tool. Click on the street view and you will see a picture of the Jet U Building without signs. You can even turn the picture and drive down the street to the old fire station!
Practice being a hero while you are waiting for your guaranteed Jet University job!
If you look at the JetU website you will see a building with the name "JET UNIVERSITY" atop the outside. When you actually go to Jet University you might have a hard time finding it (like I did) because that sign is not really there. Just check out the "Fun Building Tool" above and you will see!
All of the JET U signs are just rolled out temporary banners and stickers. They can be put up quickly and taken down quickly.
UPDATE 04/12/09. A SIGN TRUCK ACTUALLY SHOWED UP TODAY AND PUT A REAL SIGN ON THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING. IT'S AT THE TOP OF THE JET UNIVERSITY BUILDING WHERE THE PHOTO SHOPPED SIGN WAS IN THE ADVERTISING MATERIALS. THE JET UNIVERSITY FLIGHT SCHOOL STARTED ON 03/12/07. THE SIGN TOOK ONLY 2 YEARS AND ONE MONTH TO SHOW UP AFTER THE FIRST FLIGHT SCHOOL STUDENTS STARTED.
Jet University does not have a jet and has never had a jet. The Jet you see in their advertising was a photoshop version of a CRJ700. Jet University is also not a university and does not grant degrees.
Ron was a retired pilot wth all kinds of ratings and tens of thousands of hours. He was like a fatherly figure. He taught the Private and Instrument ground school classes. At one time he must have been in the Military or something, because he just waited for a student to screw up. If you were 3 minutes late to class, he would stop the class and make an example out of you and spend 10 minutes telling us why we should be in class 5 minutes ahead of time.
He had a very soothing voice much like Mr. Rogers. Ron used to read to us, a lot, and that would put some students to sleep. He never got onto the sleeping students. He just acted like they weren't there.
Ron drove a Red Ford Ranger pick-up truck to JetU every day. On the side of the truck doors were magnetic signs advertising "Richards Discount Flight Training" 954-292-7608.
I thought it was pretty funny and kind of thought that the old man was giving the finger to JETU with those competing signs, but I never asked. Someone asked me about it once and I said JETU probably doesn't care because they got all of our money up front.
I had Ron in my Simulator training and he was much better at that than at ground school.
One day, Ron was no longer at JetU. The ground school classes were cancelled and replaced by self paced DVD's on the computer. I would imagine that those magnetic door signs came in pretty handy after that. He's probably over at Richards Flight Training now.
The guys name is Michael Fabry and he received his pilot training in the US and lives in Belgium. He flies small passenger planes in Africa. He has tons of aviation pictures from places that are incredible. He really seems to like old Cadillacs. He didn't go to Jet U, but he did take an approach picture of KFXE one time!
